Life in the Swiss Alps

The descent from the high pastures: after spending the summer in the mountains, the herds of cattle head back to the stables for the wintertime.

The Gstaad Promenade Party takes place every year in September: a parade of cows that combines Swiss mountain traditions with local lifestyle.

During the event bell ringers and farmers, in their traditional costumes, walk down the village’s main street with their most beautiful cows, adorned in flowers and clanging bells.

This end-of-summer tradition has been taking place in Switzerland since about 3000 BC ... No tourists taking selfies with cows or Ferrari’s attending the event by then!
